Black Belts, New Belts, and Big Moments – Reflections on Our April 3 Adult Jiu-Jitsu Rank Review
By: Brian Wilson

There are moments on the mat that remind us why we do this—and April 3 was full of them. During our Adult Jiu-Jitsu Rank Review, we had the honor of recognizing several students for their dedication, growth, and commitment to the art. From first-time belt promotions to the rare and hard-earned Black Belt, it was a night filled with pride, celebration, and inspiration.
We want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to every student who earned new stripes on their journey. Each stripe represents hours of hard work, quiet persistence, and a refusal to quit—we see you.
We also had the honor of awarding new belts to the following individuals:
Karina Sharp was promoted to Green Belt, marking her continued development and growing confidence in her technique. Karina is a member of our teen MMA and teen jiu-jitsu programs.

Laurel Rogers earned her Blue Belt, a milestone that reflects her consistent effort and ability to stay calm and focused under pressure. Laurel’s tenacity and curiosity for the art are evident every time she steps on the mat. She is a dedicated student, and we are so proud to recognize her with her first belt.

Robert Breitenstein was also promoted to Blue Belt, a testament to his hard work, consistent attendance, technique, and steady improvement over time. Robert has quietly built a strong foundation and continues to grow in all areas.

Noah Wheeler, a long-time student in our teen Jiu-Jitsu program received his Blue Belt, a well-earned recognition of his perseverance.

Lawrence Raymond was awarded his Purple Belt, a major step that shows his technical growth and overall time on the mat. His commitment to helping others develop does not go unnoticed. Lawrence brings a calm intensity to the mat and continues to refine his game and we are proud to recognize him with his purple belt.

Long-time student, Ben Rich earned his Brown Belt, moving into the upper ranks where deeper understanding begins to take hold. His progression has been marked by grit, consistency, hard work over time.

Two Black Belts were awarded that night—each a remarkable milestone.
First, we want to give a very special congratulations to Justin Myrick, a long-time student and assistant instructor here at Força Martial Arts & Fitness, who was presented his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Justin has been with us since I was a brown belt, and I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow through every stage of his journey. His positive attitude and passion for jiu-jitsu are contagious. He has been pivotal as an assistant instructor and a mentor in our youth and teen programs. His presence has helped shape the culture of our academy, and his promotion is both well-deserved and deeply meaningful.

Justin shared these words about the night:
“Last night was special: I was awarded my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt! I’m so grateful for this art, and the people I get to share it with. There is still much to learn. So, I’ll keep training and keep moving forward. But it’s a significant marker and fun to celebrate. My daughter even had a cake waiting for me when I got home! Thank you to my family and friends for all your support. Thank you to Força Martial Arts & Fitness - Russellville for what you have built here in this community. Most of all, I thank God, because the lessons He continues to teach me through this art are what keep me coming back more than anything else.”

Next, we celebrate Carolyn Thompson of Thompson Defense Academy on receiving her Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We’re honored to share the mat and the moment with her.

This night was also a bittersweet one, as we said farewell to one of our long-time students, Miracle Hatchett. Miracle received her second stripe on her blue belt and has been a dedicated, consistent presence on the mats for years. She’s competed with courage and represented our academy with pride. Miracle is now pursuing her dream of becoming a firefighter and will be moving to begin this next chapter of her life. We are so proud of her and grateful for the time we've had training alongside her. Miracle, you will always be a part of our Força family, and we’ll miss you greatly. To every student who earned a stripe, a new belt, or simply showed up and trained: thank you. You are the heart of this academy. These ranks are more than just colors—they’re symbols of your journey, your growth, and your resilience. We’re proud of each and every one of you.

Let’s keep training, keep learning, and keep moving forward—together.
